Library and Directory Sites

Michigan Electronic Library is an information gateway to Internet resources, hundreds of full-text magazines and newspapers and over 10,000 electronic books.
Internet Public Library, from the University of Michigan School of Information, offers links to the net by subject.
Librarian’s Guide to the Internet is a directory of 11,000+ sites, arranged by subject, selected and evaluated by librarians for their usefulness to users of public libraries.
Library of Congress is the library. Follow the links for info, check out the history links as the TV commercial says.
RefDesk is “about indexing quality Internet sites and assisting visitors in navigating these sites.” This is a huge index for every topic imaginable.

Consumer Price Indexes
FirstGov has a user-friendly interface that helps you find the government agency/information you need.
U.S. Consumer Gateway: Over 40 federal agencies participate in this site, providing authoritative consumer information ranging from health issues to product safety.
US Postal Service offers zip codes, mailing directions and calculations, label printing and more.
The World Factbook from the CIA offers up-to-date information on every country including maps.
