Monday Medley

Monday Medley is an evening program held at 7 p.m. in the Storytime Rooms for children ages 3 1/2 to 5 years, but not yet in kindergarten. Come and be a part of storytime fun along with activities, rhymes and crafts.

Tuesday Storytime is a traditional children's activity for independent listeners ages 3 1/2 to 5 held in the Storytime Room at 10 and 11 a.m. Children must be able to attend unaccompanied by a caregiver for the 30-minute program, which features popular themes, stories, flannel board tales and related activities.

Wonderful Wednesdays

 

Wonderful Wednesdays mean fun at the library. Held in the Programming Center. Toddler Time selections are for children ages 2-3. Trio selections feature a story, a movie and a craft all in one morning. Families or caregivers are invited to share in both types of programs.

Annual bookmark contest scheduled for March

Students in grades K-6 are invited to enter the Sterling Heights Public Library Annual Bookmark Contest. The contest runs from March 1-31. The deadline for entries is 9 p.m. March 31. Forms are available in Youth Services or by clicking HERE. To participate, design a bookmark sized 8 1/2 by 2 1/2 inches in black and white only. No crayons, photographs or copyrighted characters.

All winning entries will be reproduced for distribution in the library. Prizes will include ribbons and $20 bookstore gift cards for eight winners. Prizes are provided by the Friends of the Library.

Alice in Wonderland

Throughout the month of March pick up a March Madness contest form. Answers to the questions will be silly, wild and wacky. Two lucky winners will be selected randomly. All children are welcome. One entry only please.

Alice in Wonderland's Mad Hatter Tea Party

Don’t be late for this Very Important Date! On Tuesday, April 6 at 10:30 a.m. join us in Wonderland for a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. Share Alice’s story, play a party game, and enjoy a tea cake (guaranteed not to make you shrink). Join in the fun by wearing a funny hat, an Alice costume, or a fancy tea party outfit if you wish. The Queen of Hearts asks us to point out that due to space limitations, this event is for children only, ages 5 and up.

April is Superheroes Month

Beginning April 5, pick up a contest form to test your “Super Hero” knowledge by matching the Super Hero or Villain to their name. Two lucky winners will be drawn. One entry only please. Contest ends April 30.

April Movie Days

Take a break with two great movies for the family. On Monday, April 5 at 11 a.m. watch Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. Then on Saturday, April 24 we will be showing G-Force at 2:30 p.m. Both will be shown in our Programming Center.

Celebrate Children's Book Week May 10-16

This annual observance celebrates the written word. Children’s Book Week introduces young people to new authors and ideas in schools, libraries, homes and bookstores. Through Children’s Book Week the Children’s Book Council encourages young people and their caregivers to discover the complexity of the world beyond their own experience through books. Be sure to visit your public library with your family and check out the wide range of children’s materials. Be sure to sign up for your first library card, too.

May Animals

Who am I? Do you think you can name lots of animals? Well, we have a contest for you! During the month of May stop and pick up a form. You will be matching the animal picture to their name. See how many you recognize. There will be two lucky winners. One entry only please.

Whispering Pines Wild Animals

On Saturday, May 1, animals from Whispering Pines in Lexington, Michigan will bring their amazing animals from around the world. About a dozen wild animals will be part of this educational event held in our Programming Center for children ages 5 and older. Please note: There will be two times offered: 2-2:45 p.m. and 3-3:45 p.m. Children will be seated first and only if space is available will adults be able to attend.

Preschool Movies

Come to the Programming Center on Tuesday, May 11 at 10:30 a.m. for some preschool movie fun. A variety of animal themed short movies designed with the preschooler in mind will be shown.

Children's Farm

If you ‘d love to see animals up close, stop by the library on Wednesday, May 12 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The Children’s Farm of Casco, Michigan will bring along a variety of farm animals to see and pet. Robert Tharrett will be on hand to answer your questions. A springtime treat for children of all ages. This program will be held outdoors.

Pokemon Time

Pokemon fans: This program is just for you! bring your cards, games and other paraphernalia to show, tell and trade. This is a time for you to meet other fans, play your games and talk about all things Pokemon. Snacks are provided and caregivers are welcome.
Sessions include:

After School Explorers

Explorers is an after school group of children, ages 6+ who meet once a month on a Wednesday from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in the Programming Center.

Paws for Reading

Children and pets have a special bond because animals do not judge, correct, or interrupt a reader. Our specially certified dogs will welcome readers on Tuesdays from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Program dates are Feb. 23; March 9, 16 and 23; April 13, 20 and 27; and May 4 and 11. It will be first-come, first-served and each child will read for a 15-minute interval. This is a child and pet ONLY program. Caregivers are invited to stay within the Youth Services area. Your child is welcome to bring their own book or select one from our cart. The program is held in the Storytime Room. Stop by the reference desk when you arrive to pick up your sign-in number.
